Past President Tim McKinney was pleased to introduce Amanda Smith, today's speaker and one of the newest members of the Rotary Club of Belleville. Amanda has an infectious personality as Tim vouched for as Amanda is part of his real estate team. A hard worker and delightful to work with and known for her previous employment with the YMCA. Welcome Amanda!
Amanda admitted some chuckles were passed along to her as the longest term guest of Rotary, waiting to be formalized as a member. She hasn't had the luxury of hearing another classification talk so is really winging it today. Amanda moved to this area about 18 years ago and approached the YMCA for possible employment which did materialize shortly after. Prior to that Amanda was a fitness manager and transferred her skills and knowledge to the YMCA where she met lots of people and had the advantage of integrating into the job and community at the same time. Amanda describes herself as a work in progress as she is currently enrolled in Real Estate Education at Humber College, learning the ropes so she can become an official real estate agent, touting her divorced status as an asset and knowledge of homes being sold due to that marital status. In the meantime, she is eager and willing to help the team wherever she can with the goal to have her real estate license by the Spring.
Amanda was born in a small northern town called Larder Lake, near Kirkland Lake, known for mining exploration. Her family moved to the east end beach area of Toronto and vacationed in Consecon for a number of years. Music is part of her life, the lead singer of Jethro Tull being one of her favourites. She loved being surrounded by music. Amanda does not like conflict and quoted "when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace". Sadly her dad passed away in 2022 and she walked alongside him and his journey through a medically assisted death and feels as though she has much to offer anyone who has any questions. Amanda has a boyfriend, Mike Moffatt, an investment adviser and they love to travel although she admitted that her two dogs, Sookie and Rosie take up most of her time and money. Having already joined the Literacy Committee with Sharon McConnell, she is excited to help with the Rescue Readers program coming up. Motivated by speaker Pitbull, Amanda seems to live life and doesn't let it live her. Tracy Bray thanked Amanda for stepping up at the last minute to present her classification talk. And here is Sookie and Rosie.
